How to Configure OmniStream Display Control:
Controlling downstream devices (TV)
TCP Proxy (Recommended Method)
TCP/IP traffic received by encoder or decoder on defined IP:Port socket are translated to RS-232, allowing both control of source or display. Control is achieved using a control system, where all control commands are stored.
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab.
- Set either serial_port1 or serial_port2 to serial mode, under Serial port configuration.
- Under Serial configuration, select desired port and set mode to tcpproxy.
- Define ethernet interface and TCP port to listen on:
NOTE: Configure decoder if control of display is desired, and configure encoder for control of source.
Pass-Through
Control input over RS-232 is converted over IP by encoder. Destination device can be the IP address of display end point or decoder.
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab of encoder.
- Set either serial_port1 or serial_port2 to serial mode, under Serial port configuration.
- Under Serial configuration, select desired port and set mode to Not used:
- Navigate to web interface Session tab.
- Under AUX control, select desired source serial_port#.
- Define the Destination IP address and UDP port of the decoder, or IP address of display:
- If decoder in step 6 is chosen, navigate to the IP Input tab of the decoder.
- Enable an INPUT, e.g. INPUT 5, with no Multicast address defined, and Port set to that in step 6:
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab.
- Set either serial_port1 or serial_port2 to serial mode, under Serial port configuration.
- Under Serial configuration, select desired port and set mode to output:
Triggered
Display commands are stored in encoder or decoder, and are triggered through telnet/SSH, or by button press on encoder (button press method available only on OMNI-112). Using this method ignores any standby projector cooldown or timeout settings of decoder.
Option 1: Defining commands on Decoder
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab of decoder.
- Set either serial_port1 or serial_port2 to serial mode, under Serial port configuration.
- Under Serial configuration, select desired port, set mode to output and Input as Not used:
- Define the display command, in ASCII or HEX, and Mode to raw. Available display command sets are:
- Display On | Display Off
- Volume Up | Volume Down
- Telnet/SSH to decoder and trigger display control using following command,
TrigRS232X Y: Trigger the RS232 command Y (on, off, vol+ or vol-) on RS232 port X (1 or 2)
Option 2: Defining commands on Encoder
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab of encoder.
- Define the display command, in ASCII or HEX, and Interpret on to encoder. Available display command sets are:
- Display On | Display Off
- Volume Up | Volume Down
NOTE: Setting “Interpret on” to encoder implies that commands are defined/stored on encoder. If set to decoder, commands are to be defined on the decoder.
- Navigate to web interface Session tab.
- Under AUX control and set source to Commands.
- Define the Destination IP address and UDP port of the decoder:
- Navigate to web interface IP INPUT tab of decoder.
- Enable an INPUT, e.g. INPUT 5, with no Multicast address defined, and Port set to that in step 5:
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab.
- Set either serial_port1 or serial_port2 to serial mode, under Serial port configuration.
- Under Serial configuration, select desired port and set mode to output:
- Telnet/SSH to encoder and trigger display control using following commands. If using OMNI-112, front panel buttons can also be used.
- InputBtn Y: Select an input (1, 2, or tog)
- DisplayBtnX Y: Send the command Y (on, off, toggle) for HDMI input X (1 or 2)
- VolumeBtn X: Send the volume up or down command
CEC
Display control using CEC is a decoder native feature. To enable this feature,
- Navigate to web interface HDMI Output tab of decoder.
- Configure Timeout (seconds) between 30 – 900 (inclusive).
- (Optional) Configure Projector cooldown (seconds) between 5 – 300 (inclusive):
Terminology:
- Auto on: When source IP stream detected, turn display on using CEC
- Projector cooldown: Minimum wait time in seconds before CEC display on allowed, after a CEC display off.
- Timeout: Time in seconds before CEC display off sent after loss of IP stream detected.
- Type:
- DispSW AVon: Hold output high, aka black frame. Turn on/off display using CEC based on source IP stream presence.
- DispSW AVSW: Drop output signal if no active source. Turn on/off display using CEC based on source IP stream presence.
- AV SW: Do not turn on/off display using CEC. Drop output signal if no active source.
- Always On: No function. No CEC control. Hold output high, aka black frame.
Controlling upstream devices (source) from downstream (TV)
RS-232
Serial interface provides RS-232 control of both downstream (TV) and upstream (source). Source control is provided through enabling bidirectional.
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab of decoder.
- Set either serial_port1 or serial_port2 to serial mode, under Serial port configuration.
- Under Serial Configuration, set Bidirectional parameters to that of the encoder, or IP controllable source. Following image depicts decoder @ 10.10.8.14, speaking to encoder @ 10.10.8.35 listening on UDP port 1204:
- Navigate to web interface Serial tab of encoder.
- Set either serial_port1 or serial_port2 to serial mode, under Serial port configuration.
- Under Serial configuration, select desired port and set mode to Not used:
- Navigate to web interface Session tab.
- Under AUX section, enable Bidirectional function, and set Listen port (must match decoder parameter):
IR
Control of headend (source) from downstream using IR, mirrors RS-232 setup. The only difference is that the serial_port# used needs to be configured for infrared, under Serial tab of web interface:
