KB01664 - Using AT-UHD-SW-510W and/or AT-OME-MS52W Trigger I/O and Occupancy Sensors

SKUs: AT-UHD-SW-510W, AT-OME-MS52W

Summary: Using AT-UHD-SW-510W Trigger I/O and Occupancy Sensors—

Tips for using Trigger I/O

Introduction: AT-UHD-SW-510W/AT-OME-MS52W Trigger I/O

The AT-UHD-SW-510W/AT-OME-MS52W supports both active output and passive output sensors. You can also power your sensor using the 510W/MS52W, 12 V, P output. Trigger I/O is intended for occupancy sensors, but this port can be utilized to trigger display and screen control by any device with the appropriate specifications.

  • To power your sensor with the 510W/MS52W, your sensor must support 12 V DC power and draw < 100mA.

Active Output Sensors

  • Your sensor outputs a voltage when triggered.
  • Sensors with powered outputs must output between 3 and 30 VDC.

Passive Output Sensors

  • Your sensor shorts its outputs together when triggered.
  • Sensors with passive outputs will require a bridge between the ground and - terminals of your Trigger I/O port.

The AT-UHD-SW-510W/AT-OME-MS52W Assumes Room Occupied When Triggered

  • When occupied you can configure the screen relay to extend your screen and the display ON command to be sent
  • When not occupied you can configure the screen relay to retract your screen and the display OFF command to be sent

Wiring Active Output Sensors

Sensor Powered Externally

  • Ensure your sensor outputs 3 - 30 V DC when triggered

  • Make the following connections:
    • Trigger I/O - to the ground or common of your sensor
    • Trigger I/O + to the sensor positive output terminal
    • Connect your sensor's external power supply

Sensor Powered by 510W

  • Ensure your sensor outputs 3 - 30 V DC when triggered

  • Make the following connections:
    • Trigger I/O - to the ground or common of your sensor
    • Trigger I/O + to the sensor positive output terminal
    • Trigger I/O P to the sensor 12V power input
    • Trigger I/O to the sensor ground

Wiring Passive Output Sensors

Sensor Powered Externally

  • Ensure your sensor supports a 12V trigger signal input

  • Make the following connections:
    • Trigger I/O - to Trigger I/O
    • Trigger I/O + to the sensor terminal
    • Trigger I/O P to the other sensor terminal
    • Connect your sensor's external power supply

  • Current @ 12V will come from the P terminal and sink into the + terminal when the sensor is triggered
    • Only 1-2 mA will flow.

Sensor Powered by 510W

  • Ensure your sensor supports a 12V trigger signal input

  • Make the following connections:
    • Trigger I/O - to Trigger I/O
    • Trigger I/O to the sensor ground
    • Trigger I/O + to the first sensor terminal
    • Trigger I/O P to the second sensor terminal

  • Current @ 12V will come from the P terminal and sink into the + terminal when the sensor is triggered
    • Only 1-2 mA will flow.

Occupancy Sensor / Trigger I/O Web UI Setup

To use your Trigger I/O port for display and screen control, you must select the Display Control Method "Active Video Presence w/ Occupancy Sensor" or "Occupancy Sensor" in the Display menu:

For screen control options, scroll to the Relay settings. See this article for more information on screen control.

Troubleshooting Trigger I/O

  • No 12 V on the P Output
    • Make sure there are no shorts in your wiring from P to or from P to -.
    • Shutdown your AT-UHD-SW-510W from the web interface then pull its power cord for 5 seconds.
      • The P output is protected with a fuse that will reset when power is removed.

  • Trigger I/O Does Not Trigger
    • If using the "Active Video Presence w/ Occupancy Sensor" Display Control Method, make sure you have an active video source connected to the 510W.
    • Check your sensor wiring and use a multimeter to confirm your sensor is outputting an active or passive trigger signal.

  • Trigger I/O Is Always Triggered
    • Check your sensor wiring and use a multimeter to confirm your sensor is outputting an active or passive trigger signal.
    • The passive signal connection at the 510W is high impedance. It only takes 1-2 mA to trigger, so make sure there are no shorts in your cable.
