Velocity - How to update a VTP touchpanel – Atlona Help Center

Challenge: Velocity touchpanel that is slow or unresponsive, touchpanel that freezes and does not allow user input, touchpanel that shows disconnected even when Velocity is online and operational. Unable to access the advanced settings menu after entering the wrong IP information in the touch panel.

Solution: There have been several updates to the Velocity touchpanel firmware that could resolve these challenges.

Step-by-step guide:

1. Preparation

Make sure the Velocity Gateway is running the latest FW.
- The minimum firmware to be able to update via AMS is 2.4.0. The current FW version can be found here.
Internet access - It is preferred that the gateway and touch panels are on an internet-facing network. If this is not an available option, the PC that will be connecting will need a robust internet connection.

2. Preferred Method - Update From Internet (OTA - Over the Air)

There are two options for updating the touchpanel Over the Air (OTA)
- Option 1: Updating from the VTP
  - When you are in front of the touchpanel, swipe from left to right on the screen
  - Select About Velocity
  - On the next screen select Check for Updates
  - Wait approximately 10-20 minutes for the update to complete. Do NOT power cycle your touchpanel while the update is running. Even if you see a screen showing Velocity, the update is not complete until your touchpanel loads back to your user interface.
  - At the first boot, you might see: "Select the Intended Launcher" pop-up message. Please select “cus_Launcher” and then approve by selecting the option “Always”.

- Option 2: Updating from AMS (Note: Your touchpanel will need to be synchronized to a room)
  - Log into your Velocity Gateway
  - Click the ≡ button in the upper left of the screen
  - Select Management & AMS Device Manager
  - Open the Room where the touchpanel is synchronized
  - Click the 3 dots next to the VTP label and select Firmware Update
  - Select Update From Internet
  - Wait approximately 10-20 minutes for the update to complete. Do NOT power cycle your touchpanel while the update is running. Even if you see a screen showing Velocity, the update is not complete until your touchpanel loads back to the user interface.
  - At the first boot, you might see: "Select the Intended Launcher" pop-up message. Please select “cus_Launcher” and then approve by selecting the option “Always”.
  - Wait for the touchpanel to return to the synchronized room.

3. Update From Local

Make sure you have a robust internet/hotspot connection; you are going to download a 2GB file over the internet.
Log into your Velocity Gateway
Click the ≡ button in the upper left of the screen
Click Settings -> Network
Select the Network where the touchpanels are connected
Enable the FTP Server on this network
Click Save Settings and wait 3-4 minutes for the gateway to reboot
Click the Gateway tab
Locate VTP Image Update below Firmware Update
Click Check For Updates
Select Download VTP Firmware
Once the file is finished downloading, locate VTP-1.0.1.tar.gz and upload this file back into the gateway under VTP Image Update
Check Current Version shows 1.0.1
Click the ≡ button in the upper left of the screen
Select Management & AMS Device Manager
Open the Room where the touchpanel is synchronized
Click the 3 dots next to the VTP label and select Firmware Update
Select Update From Local
Wait approximately 10-20 minutes for the update to complete. Do NOT power cycle your touchpanel while the update is running.
At the first boot, you might see: "Select the Intended Launcher" pop-up message. Please select “cus_Launcher” and then approve by selecting the option “Always”.
Wait for the touchpanel to return to the synchronized room.

4. Update Apps Only

Swipe from left to right on the screen
Select About Velocity
- You must be on FW 1.3.0 or greater to run this option
  - If you are on FW 1.1.5, you must use one of the two methods above
Log into your Velocity Gateway
Click the ≡ button in the upper left of the screen
Select Management & AMS Device Manager
Open the Room where the touchpanel is synchronized
Click the 3 dots next to the VTP label and select Firmware Update
Select Update Apps Only
Once the process completes, FW on the touchpanel will show updated
