KB01421 - What does HDCP on/off and Scrambling on/off do and what is the importance?

SKU: All Omnistream units

Subject: What does HDCP on/off and Scrambling on/off do and what is the importance?

Explanation:
HDCP refers to the transfer of specific copyright protection keys that get exchanged in the audio-video handshake process. This is specific for digital A/V sources and was established by media companies to protect content from being illegally reproduced.

Scrambling in Omnistream adds 128-bit AES encryption to both the audio and video streams. This adds an additional layer of security to your streams. Even with a supercomputer, it would take 1 billion years to crack the 128-bit AES key using brute force attack.

You will need Scrambling ON when HDCP is ON to pass the stream. You cannot apply scrambling to aux/data streams.
