KB01068 - Why am I unable to pass certain 4K signals over my AT-UHD-EX extenders but 1080p works?

SKUs: AT-UHD-EX-70-2PS, AT-UHD-EX-70-KIT, AT-UHD-EX-70C-KIT, AT-UHD-EX-100CE-KIT, AT-UHD-EX-100CEA-KIT, AT-UHD-EX-70-RX, AT-UHD-EX-70C-RX, AT-UHD-EX-100CE-RX, AT-UHD-EX-100CE-RX-PSK

Atlona has few different extenders with different distance capabilities:

  1. AT-UHD-EX-70-xx
  2. AT-UHD-EX-100-xx

All of the product families above will support up to 4096x2160 @ 60Hz with 4:2:0 at 8-bit max. In addition to that, however, you must also have HDMI cables that support 4k as well as all other devices in your signal path being 4K compliant.

The distance expectations for 4K is different depending on what version of the extender you have.

Please see the chart below to get 4K passing over your extenders:

  • HDMI cables can’t be any longer than 5 meters or 15ft on either end.
  • Check your CAT cables specifications and distance to ensure you are within capabilities:

  • Once CAT is confirmed to be within spec, check your device’s resolution settings to confirm what 4K format is being sent. Note, Atlona can only support up to 4096x2160 @ 60Hz with 4:2:0 at 8-bit.
  • If your source is sending 4096x2160 @ 30hz, please connect it directly to your 4K display and access its settings to see if you can select 4096x2160 @ 60hz as well as setting the chroma subsampling to 4:2:0 and choosing an 8-bit signal.

Please note, some sources are not able to output 4K at 60hz with 4:2:0 and 8-bit signal and thus could only be used at 1080p due to resolution incompatibilities.
