Velocity - Database - How to save, download and restore your programming

SKUs: Velocity platform, AT-VGW-250, AT-VGW-HW-3, AT-VGW-HW-10, AT-VGW-HW-20, AT-VGW-SW, AT-VTPG-1000VL

Summary: This article is here to help you understand how to do backups on your Velocity system.

Best Practices

  • ALWAYS make sure to back up and download your work.
  • If this is a new install, it is recommended to make a backup at least daily.
    • If you run into issues you are stuck on, you can revert to one of the older revisions.
  • Download your more essential or final databases.
    • This ensures you have a proper backup of your programming in case of a failure.
    • You can also upload this database to another velocity gateway if compatible.
    • Make sure to store the credentials/firmware version in a text file with the database in case you need to revisit this site.
  • Again, ALWAYS make sure to back up and download your work.

How to back up your database

  • Look for Backup To Memory Location. It should be at the top.
  • Inside this section, you will find five backup memory slots you can store on your gateway. You can select one of the Not used locations or one you no longer need.
  • Next, you will want to click on Backup Now and wait until Velocity finishes the backup. This may take a moment, but when it's done, your database will not show up right away.
  • Make sure to refresh your browser, and your programming should be backed up in the selected spot.

How to download your database

No sound

  • After you have a backup that is stored, you can download it.
  • Start by selecting the backup you would like to download.
  • Once this is done, the options for this database will appear. Click the download button, and your programming will begin downloading to your computer.

Restoring a previously downloaded database

  • While on Database settings, scroll down until you see Upload Database Dump.
  • You can drag and drop your database file or click on the inside box to browse your files.
  • This will override all your current programming

Restoring automatic backups

  • While on Database settings, scroll down until you see Database Backups Available For Restore.
  • These backups happen once a day and can be helpful in an emergency.
  • Select the backup you want to restore and click Restore on the bottom right.

Extra information

  • You can rename your database, but you cannot remove the file extension TAR.GZ
    • If this extension is removed or changed, it will cause an error if you try restoring it.
  • Database backups include programming and login information
  • Database backups do not have VGW settings, like IP addresses and firmware.
  • For most of our VGWs, you should be able to download and upload to another as long as they have enough room licenses.
  • If you have an AT-VTPG model, you only want to back up and upload to another AT-VTPG using the database ONLY not the room or site files.
