Subject: How to connect a powered IR connecting block to an extender set (i.e. to power an IR receiver at the TX side of the extender set)

Steps:

While most Atlona extenders have a dedicated power pin on the HDBaseT receiver that is intended to be used with an IR receiver (i.e. AT-IR-CS-RX), there is no power pin on the TX side as this connection is most often used with control systems that are self-powered, therefore you only use the TX/signal and ground pins to go into the Atlona device. However, the steps below will show you how to use an IR connecting block, such as the Xantech 789-44 to power an IR receiver to go into the Atlona unit with:

  • The Xantech 789-44 typically comes with its own IR receiver, 12v power supply and 4 emitters. If you want to use the AT-IR-CS-RX receiver from Atlona to go into the captive screw IR input of the Xantech, you can do so as they are inter-compatible.
  • The Xantech 789-44 looks like so:                                            and the supplied emitters:
  • To connect this unit to the input of the Atlona system, you may cut off one of the emitter bugs to reveal two wires: the (+) pin and a (-). The pin-out of a 283D Xantech emitter is:
  • Therefore, you will connect the (+) to the S (signal) pin of the Atlona system and (-) to ground:
