KB01138: How to perform a backup of the AMS system

Subject: How to perform a backup of the AMS system

AMS Database Backup Procedure

The following steps outline how to take a backup of an AMS database and upload an AMS database. This is particularly useful in cases where older versions of AMS are unable to transfer databases to newer versions. For example, upgrading from AMS 1.3 to 1.7.0 is not supported, but following this procedure will ensure that the database is not lost during the transfer.

To obtain the database backup:

  1. Log into AMS.
  2. Follow the AMS path Start > Configuration > AMS > Backup & Restore.
  3. Click User Triggered DB-Backup (paper icon).
  4. Type in a prefix name for the database file that will be created, then press save. AMS will compile the information in the database, and create a .SQL file.
  5. Next AMS will confirm the data is being backed up.
  6. Go to the computer path C:\AMS\ATLONA\EMS\server and copy the .SQL file to the desktop. The database file that AMS created will be named as the prefix given in step 4 followed by the current date and time.

At this point, the old version of AMS should be uninstalled, and AMS 1.7.0 should be installed. Once AMS 1.7.0 is installed, follow the steps outlined below.

Uploading database backup:

  1. Log into AMS.
  2. Follow the AMS path Start > Configuration > AMS > Backup & Restore.
  3. Click Upload (computer and download icon).
  4. Select the database file created in the previous section from the desktop, then press okay.
  5. The AMS server will stop, restore the selected database, and restart automatically after a minute timeout. Log back into AMS to ensure that the old database has been successfully uploaded.
